Yesterday I was at gamescom and time flew by so very fast. It's an incredible show and if you're going to visit gamescom 2016, here are some tips for you:
Entrance and waiting times
With the additional security check this year, before queuing grab a bottle of water that is handed out for free. If you dont have a bag, you can just go through, so work your way through the crowd instead of waiting half an hour for nothing. Be nice and friendly and tell people, that without a bag, there's no waiting time!
If you are early, rush to the blockbuster you really really want to play. Lines will not get shorter later!
It is sad that nearly no booth provides signs how long you can play and how long you have to wait. Some booths are even designed to look like they are pretty empty, but then you come around a corner and what you thought is the entrance is just more space for waiting people...
Game: Dropzone (Hall 6 A041)
Go play dropzone. It is a nice game, you get a beta key and a three legged camping stool! Pretty useful for future queuing. At least I got one on the trade visitor day.
I'm not sure anymore, but I think they let ~20 people in every ~15 minutes. Don't take my word, ask the staff. You get a ~10min briefing and then you can play one 15 min match.
I didn't like the briefing at all, because they focus on the "story" behind this purely competitive game. The story doesn't matter and I couldn't care less, why I am collecting strange stuff and fight strange respawning alien creatures. It kinda plays like a extraordinary polished Starcraft 2 custom map, which is a good thing! This game has a lot of potential and if you like RTS games and competition, you will love this.
Game: Rise of the Tomb Raider (Hall 9 B031)
I wanted to play Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, but the queue was too long and I decided to go for Rise of the Tomb Raider instead.
They let 10 people in every 15 minutes. You can take a survey while waiting and get a goodie for that. I now have an USB fan for my phone. Nice!
First you play the new coop-mode with a friend (or a stranger) for 15 minutes and after that they show you some gameplay from the rest of the game.
I played the hell out of the first new Tomb Raider mainly because the bow and arrow was so much fun. Now with this coop survival mode where you have to hunt with bow and arrow, I will definitely buy the anniversary edition of Rise of the Tomb Raider as well. It is coming out on October 11. Game: Civilisation VI (Hall 6 B011)
They let 36 people in every 30 minutes and let you play for 30 minutes. I always counted more than 36 people in the queue, so I skipped it, but maybe I try again on Friday.
Indie arena (Hall 10.1 A020)
Got to the Indie Arena in Hall 10.1 and have fun with awesome games! Nearly no waiting times and very very interesting games. I had the most fun with Tricky Towers, but you should try as many as you can!
Game: No Man's Sky
You want to know what the hype is about without any hype around it? On the back of a hardware booth (maybe it was alternate?) in hall 10 there are some PCs where you can play No Man's Sky. I dont remember the booth number, but it is next to the social media stage.
This is just a random selection of games I was interested in. Hope it helps.
